(Thero)Podcasting from the National Science Museum of Japan

9:31 pm

At the Museums and the Web conference, Dr. Makoto Manabe of the National Science Museum of Japan demonstrated some well-done audio content that had been developed for their dinosaur exhibits. Visitors to this page can download .m4a files for a guided audio tour that leads you along a trail of specimens from the oldest known theropod dinosaurs through to modern birds.

When increasing numbers of museum visitors carry their own portable audio devices, it becomes amazingly easy to create and distribute audiotours without dealing with the overhead costs of equipment rental and maintenance.

The added bonus, of course, is that anyone can put a tastefully narrated description of T. rex feces onto their iPod Shuffle or party mix tape. Now that’s progress!
