How to Blow Up a Torosaurus
7:55 am
That’s “blow up” in the sense of enlarge, not explode. A recent comment to this post about a life-sized Torosaurus sculpture reveals that a 7-foot scale model the statuesque ceratopsian was sculpted by YPM Preparator Michael Anderson, but artist George Mummert was commissioned to scale the model up to life-size. A slideshow of the process is online here, and other impressive work for natural history museums is shown on the site.
The Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman also has a life-sized Torosaurus reconstruction in its dinosaur hall, the skin on half of which has been peeled away to expose the muscles and bone. Poor Triceratops is being overshadowed by his bigger cousin, I’m afraid.
