This fall has been a good season for old-timey paleo. G. T. Labs has published their long-awaited graphic novel, Bone Sharps, Cowboys, and Thunder Lizards. I couldn’t possibly summarize it any better than the book’s subtitle, so I’ll just reproduce that here:

A Tale of Edward Drinker Cope, Othniel Charles Marsh, and the Gilded Age of Paleontology Guest Starring The World-Renowned Artist Charles R. Knight, Chief Red Cloud & Hundreds of His Indian Braves, the Gun-Totin’ & Gamblin’ Professor John Bell Hatcher, Colossal & Stupefying Dinosauria of the New World, and Featuring Special Appearances by The Cardiff Giant, P.T. Barnum, Buffalo Bill Cody, Ulysses S. Grant, Alexander Graham Bell, and A Plentiful Supporting Cast of Rogues & Gallants from The Eastern Scientific Establishment and The Old West Containing a Narrative Comprised of Remarkable Stories, Wonderful Occurrences, Singular Events, Striking Anecdotes, Miraculous & Heroic Adventures, Unaccountable Appearances, Absurd Characters, Memorable Exploits, Astonishing Deliverances from Death & Various Other Dangers, Amusing Histories, Strange Accidents, Extraordinary Memoirs, &c. in the Wonderful Phenomena of Nature: The Whole Interspersed with Choice Extracts from the most Celebrated Historians, Ancient and Modern; and Including Many Wonderful Stories Entirely Original, Founded on Well-Attested Facts; All Meticulously Recounted by Jim Ottaviani and Exquisitely Delineated by Big Time Attic.
Exactly.
I picked it up with a copy of Charles R. Knight’s Autobiography of an Artist, by the same publisher, and found that I got more out of each by reading them both.
